The vision of the Antigua International School (AIS) is to guide children to pursue their own ethical highest purpose by teaching them how to think and serve others, so that they may transform Guatemala and the world. The three pillars of the school are: Think Critically, Act Ethically and Serve Others.
Established in 2011, AIS is committed to providing the best education in Central America for all who seek it, regardless of economic or social status. Through a strong, internationally focused, liberal arts curriculum and individualized attention, AIS challenges students to cultivate a love of learning, lead an ordered life, and accept personal responsibility. |
AIS is an independent, not for profit, international school that brings together an experienced and passionate faculty with innovative teaching methods. AIS hires certified teachers and experienced staff from all over the world, with close to 50% holding advanced degrees. Founded in November 2011 with 60 students in grades 1-8, AIS currently has an enrollment of over 350 in Toddlers through 12th grade. Seventy five percent of the student body is Guatemalan, with the remainder representing over 25 nationalities. AIS grants scholarships to more than half its students. A need blind process is used to admit students, and an independent socioeconomic study is utilized to determine need.

AIS completed its permanent campus in November 2015. The 5,000 plus meter facility includes classrooms, offices, library, kitchen, cafeteria, athletic fields, two science labs and art studios. Our campus is located on six acres in the Antigua valley. Future phases include additional classrooms, an Early Childhood Center, and an expanded library among other improvements.

AIS launched the Building for the Future campaign to ensure the life-changing impact of an AIS education extends to the next generation of students. Building for the Future further realizes AIS’ mission through capital projects including the construction of an Early Childhood Center and the expansion of our library. In addition, the Building for the Future campaign enriches and extends the school’s commitment to tuition assistance, and developing people and programs.
