FROM OUR DIRECTOR
,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. Last year we restructured, realigned, and renewed our efforts to realize the AIS motto to “Think Critically, Act Ethically, and to Serve Others.” This year we plan to further strengthen those efforts in our community. We have the pieces in place and together we will move forward.

After one year with the Balanced LIteracy approach in elementary level, we have already seen great strides in reading and writing in both English and Spanish. It is very exciting.

This year our work will focus also on reaccreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). We will be aligning the curriculum with the NEASC Learning Principles which focus teaching even more on student involvement in their own learning, as we adapt instruction to meet individual student needs.

It is wonderful that most of our teachers are returning this year. They are an incredible team of qualified and dedicated educators. We welcome the new staff to our community.

We will also work this year on improving our communication with each other and with parents, so that we can be even more productive. We encourage parents to read the Parent-Student Handbook online or in paper form.
I am delighted to be part of this community and look forward to working together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Diane Palmer, Director
