FROM OUR DIRECTOR
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. AIS is proud of the positive growth we have made over the last several years. The school had more than 300 students attend last year. There are always growing pains, but the AIS family is proud of the fact that we have not lost our special feeling of community during the growth. The motto of “think critically, act ethically, and serve others” is very much a part of life and mission at AIS. Many parents say their move to AIS has changed not only their child’s outlook on school, but also the family’s life as well. We are blessed to be part of something great.
This year we plan to continue to strengthen our academic program and continue to grow as a community. The staff has worked hard to update and improve our curriculum, aligning it vertically (so teachers know from pre-K-12th grade what is happening in each subject) and horizontally (to allow for the combination of subject matter to work together on various projects). The result is learning that is more engaging and more relevant.
AIS teachers are the heart of the school. We are blessed to have an incredible team of dedicated teachers who always look for new ways to improve instruction. The elementary level balanced literacy program
in English and Spanish is a critical element in the improvement of our academic program. It is also important to note that differentiated instruction is at the core of our beliefs in education. We know that
all children learn at their own pace and in their own way, so we do our best to meet individual needs.
Teachers will continue to work with parents to ensure a productive home-school relationship. We encourage parents to contact teachers when they have a question, and to be an active part of their
child’s learning experience. As students move to another level, we expect them to gradually increase their ability to take responsibility for their own progress and behavior.
We ask all families to review the school handbook thoroughly. The electronic copy of the handbook on our website is always the most updated form, as changes might be necessary throughout the school year. AIS wishes everyone a great school year.
